Liturgical Ministries
Liturgical Ministries include:
- Acolytes / Altar Servers
- Eucharistic Ministers
- Readers
All liturgical ministers must be commissioned by the Parish Priest.
Tell the Parish Office if you’ve completed the Liturgical Ministry Course or wish to; course enrolment requires Parish Priest’s approval.
Box Hill Outreach
To assist with preparing Altar for Mass and chairs for attendees.
Catechists
SRE
NSW permits SRE in public schools; the Diocese’s CCD provides training and support for parish SRE volunteers — no teaching qualification required, just a love for the faith.
Children’s Liturgy
Children’s Liturgy runs during school term at:
- Every Second Sunday:
- 10:00 am (OLA Church);
- 11:30 am (Box Hill, Santa Sophia College)
- Every First & Third Sunday:
- 3:00 pm (OLA Church, Chinese)
Gospel-based liturgy guide and children’s worksheets are provided for the volunteers.
Choirs
Children’s, Latin, Youth and other choirs are offered. Please give the Parish Office your preferred choir style and Mass time so we can connect you with the Choir Master.
Cleaning
Maintain the cleanliness of the Church. A supplied checklist guides the work; teams of 8–10 typically finish in 60–90 minutes.
Collectors
Each Mass has a Lead Collector who organises collectors for the five church sections, ensures collections are returned to the sacristy, and oversees procedures per parish and diocesan guidelines. Training provided.
Linen Cleaning
Caring for and purifying Altar Linen; volunteers are taught the required procedure upon joining.
Morning / Afternoon Tea
This ministry serves morning tea after the Mass of:
- 10:00 am
- 11:30 am (Box Hill, First Sunday)
- 3:00 pm (Chinese Mass)
Supplies are provided; volunteers may bring simple finger foods if they wish.
Piety Store
The Piety Store is run by volunteers before and after all weekend Masses. Items are barcoded and priced, and training or pairing with an experienced volunteer is provided.
Projection
Assist the congregation by projecting Mass slides for responses and hymns, usually at Mass when no choir is rostered.
Social Justice Committee
This committee supports parishioners needing assistance to attend Mass, provides Eucharistic Ministry to the Sick, and coordinates other social services as needed.
Welcoming Team
Volunteers greet parishioners, distribute bulletins and flyers, ensure bathrooms and foyer are tidy.
