On 1 July 2020, Very Rev. Peter Williams instructed in accordance with the NSW Government directive that effective immediately “Holy Communion for the time being can only be administered in the hand. There are no exceptions to this rule”.

Additionally, it has been explained that if we were to ignore this directive and it was reported, they could close the Church. It has also been explained that the risk is in contamination with saliva transferring to the priests’ finger and then to another communicant. The directive was applied in Rome and the Vatican as well.
